That Barry Girl Awards its 4th Grant and Donates Books to Beth Israel and Dana Farber in Boston

That Barry Girl Foundation awarded its 4th cash grant to a breast cancer patient and donated 26 sets of the I Wish I Knew series of books in English and 26 of the Spanish version, Ojala Supiera, series to patients on December 6, 2007. Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Dana Farber Cancer Institute of Boston, Massachusetts will distribute the books to patients in treatment. The donations mark the culmination of That Barry Girl Foundation’s October collaborations with two Boston area jewelers. Enchanted Designs by Molly and Roseann Eliseo Design raised money throughout October to help That Barry Girl Foundation provide the books and the grant.

The Pink Molly bracelet by Enchanted Designs by Molly was distributed by Persona Salon on Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay. The Knot in my Life bracelet by Roseann Eliseo Design was available at the Open Studios in Boston’s Fort Point Channel. Additionally, Enchanted Designs by Molly has created a signature piece, the Tapestry necklace, to continue her collaboration with That Barry Girl Foundation and provide emotional support for women with breast cancer all year long.

Fanny Barry, breast cancer survivor, founder of That Barry Girl Foundation and author of the books, made the awards. “It is exciting to collaborate with these jewelers and to be able to give the books to patients free of charge. So many women tell me they help them cope. This way, care providers can get the books to people at the right time for them.”

The mission of That Barry Girl Foundation is to help women with breast cancer emotionally, financially, and as they move into recuperation. The foundation has provided more than 500 books to patients in treatment through their health care providers. Profits from the sale of the books goes to cash grants for women in treatment. To date That Barry Girl has given 4 grants through partnering hospitals. In November, That Barry Girl helped her first survivor recuperate at Casa Wish in Mexico and she continues to help more women begin to pull their lives back together after treatment.
